What is Swatchoos?

Swatchoos is an application designed for Adobe Photoshop CC which make your work with colors much easier. Create your own groups of colors and work as you like.

The panel offers you a variety of easy and intuitive tools for the management and storage of your colors. From this day on, your work in Photoshop will be easier and more enjoyable.

Installation

Download panel In order to download Swatchoos extension you need to go to www.swatchoos.com and use "Free Trial" button available in the page header section. After clicking on the button file download will start, when it completes the download unpack the .zip file and user proper installer based on your operating system.

Installing on Windows

  1. Double click on downloaded "install_swatchoos.zip"
  2. Run application with .exe extension.
  3. Windows will ask if file should be opened or extracted, click to open it.
  4. Click on "Install" when installer window shown.
  5. Follow installer on screen instructions.
  6. When installation completes installer will ask to reload your Photoshop, restart it for changes to apply.

Installing on Macintosh

  1. Double click on downloaded "install_swatchoos.zip"
  2. Run application with .dmg extension.
  3. Double click on "Install Swatchoos" icon when installer window shown.
  4. Follow installer on screen instructions.
  5. When installation completes installer will ask to restart your Photoshop, for changes to apply.

Runing for the first time The application after installation can be found in:

Photoshop ➜ Window ➜ Extensions ➜ Swatchoos

Additionaly it can be opened and closed after running

File ➜ Scripts ➜ Swatchoos - Toggle

or by using a shortcut key previously assigned to this action

Uninstall Panel

Uninstalling of the application - to uninstall the application, select the option "Uninstall" in the Flyout Menu and delete the "com.moongorilla.swatchoos" file and then restart the Photoshop.

Trial & License

Trial: You can use the downloaded application in trial mode for 14 days. After this period, in order to access the panel you need to enter a license key which can be purchased at www.swatchoos.com

License: A purchased license enables the user to install the application on no more than two computers. In order to install the software on another device you need to deactivate the previous copies of the application.

  1. Using a device with an already installed copy of the product. Go to Settings tab and click the Deactivate button.
  2. When activating the panel on a third device, the application will display a message informing you about the lack of available activations. The user may disable the current activations and replace them with new ones. You can deactivate your license for an unlimited number of times.
  3. Deactivate the application using the ‘Manage License’ option which is available on www.swatchoos.com at the bottom of the page.

Flyout Menu This context menu contains global application settings, license management, available presets and the report bug option which allow users report to developers directly bugs, issues and suggestion about extension.

Color Toolbar Color editing tools, i.e. brightening, darkening, blending and sorting. It also features a box displaying RGB or HEX values of a given color, which also allows for the input of these values.

Swatches section This is where swatches and swatch groups are stored. Each group is divided into 4 sections: Color, name, Visibility Status and the contents, i.e. all swatches included in the group.

Edit Toolbar This section enables you to duplicate, import, create and delete groups and to edit shape slots.

Context MenuCustom Context Menu - The context menu is called by clicking swatch or swatch group with right mouse button.

Select in-between

This option allows you to select multiple swatches (or swatch groups) at once. In order to select all swatches in between, click on the first and the last object of the desired selection while holding Shift.

In order to not change foreground color you need to hold shift before choosing first swatch.

Multiselection

Click on a swatch (or a swatch group) while holding Cmd/Ctrl in order to add it to the selection.

Create Group

This option allows you to create a new empty group or a group with the existing swatches of your choice.

Group creation is available from right-click Context Menu as well.

Renaming existing groups

Editing: You can edit names of existing groups at any moment by double clicking a group name. Confirm the entered name by pressing Enter or clicking outside the text box.

Undoing the changes: Undo the changes by pressing Cmd/Ctrl + Z.

Cancelling the edit mode: Quit the edit mode by pressing Esc

Color of the group

You can assign any color to each group, which will provide additional help when sorting groups. You simply need to click on the colored square and choose a new color.

Drag 'n drop

You can freely change the position of groups and swatches. Click and drag a group to any place within the panel.

Expanding and collapsing

You can expand or collapse a group of swatches by clicking on a small triangle on the right. In order to expand or collapse all groups at once click on the triangle while holding Cmd/Ctrl. You can also close all groups except for the one you selected by pressing Cmd/Ctrl + Alt and clicking on the triangle next to the group you want to work with.

Delete groups

To delete unwanted elements select them and click on the trash icon. Deleting of groups is also possible by calling the context menu, i.e. right mouse click on active group or by clicking File ➜ Scripts ➜ Swatchoos - delete or by using the global shortcut previously assigned to this action.

Compact mode

In order to disable the display of group headers go to Flyout menu and disable the Show Group Header option. When deactivated, all swatches are placed together on a single palette, however the borders of each group will be automatically highlighted when dragging elements.

In this mode group creation is disabled.

Duplicate

  1. Select a single group or multiple groups you want to duplicate and click ( Edit Toolbar section )
  2. Drag a group (or multiple groups) to any other location while pressing Alt.

Brighten / Darken

You can edit each created swatch at any given moment. The brighten and darken icons are located in the Color Toolbar section. This option allows you to edit a single swatch as well as multiple swatches at once. You can modify the size of increments in the panel settings.

Mix Colors

Swatchoos offers two modes of color mixing: (Average color mix – an average mix of the two selected colors) or (Subtractive color mix – superimposition of colors remaining after the elimination of white light from certain wavelengths, e.g. as a result of its absorption by the dyes). This option is available only with two active swatches.

Mix tools are available when 2 swatches are selected and they lie next to each other.

Sort by luminosity

This option enables you to sort colors based on their brightness. Simply select the swatches to be sorted and click this icon ( Color Toolbar section ).

This option enables you to sort colors based on their hue. Simply select the swatches to be sorted and click this icon ( Color Toolbars section ).

Edit Color

You can edit the existing swatches at any moment. Double click the color you want to edit to display the implemented Color Picker, which will allow you to select a new color. All changes will be automatically applied after closing it.

Color editing is also possible by calling the context menu - right-click on a given swatch or swatch group.

Add Color

In order to quickly sample the colors in PS foreground or the background simply click on a blank space within the group or its container and add a new color from the foreground slot using Shift + click or a color from the background slot using Shift + Alt + click.

Alternatively you can add non-existing color by double-click on empty space and choose new value.

Copy/Paste HEX/RGB

In the upper toolbar you can find information on the HEX and RGB values of a given color. You can copy them or enter your own values in order to create a new color. A newly added color will be added to the selected group (if any) or create a new group, which will store all the newly created swatches.

It is also possible to call a component of a given color in HEX by calling a context menu, which is activated after right-click.

  1. Select a single swatch or multiple swatches you want to duplicate and click this icon ( Edit Toolbar section )
  2. Drag a swatch (or multiple swatches) to any other location while pressing Alt.
  3. In order not to lose the default color e.g. during brightening, press Cmd/Ctrl so that the new color will be saved in a separate swatch.
  4. After selecting the swatch, go to File ➜ Scripts ➜ Swatchoos Duplicate or by using a global shortcut previously assigned to this action.

Auto color naming

When sampling colors from bitmaps or layers, Swatchoos will automatically assign an appropriate name available in the tooltip to each color.

Fill shape

After selecting a layer with a shape, the selected swatch will change its color. This function is available for the foreground slot and can be also applied on multiple selected shapes.

Controls At the bottom of the Menu bar, the shape icons and its contour appear - after their activating (clicking), you can change the color. In addition, it is possible to change the thickness of the shape contour and change the color between the shape and its contour.

Color Fill and Stroke at onceIt is possible to assign a color to both slots - you can activate them with the Ctrl pressed. Changing of colors between slots is also possible by entering File ➜ Scripts ➜ Swatchoos Swap shape colors, or by using a shortcut assigned to this action.

Send shape color to a group By calling the context menu, i.e. by right-click on the slot / slots icon. Colors are added to the currently active group. If no group is active the colors will be added to the newly created group. In non-RGB color space mode, the application displays on the slot icons information about the possibility of selection of colors other than the applied color. The difference is due to the lack of a mapping of 1: 1 color rendering algorithm.

To deactivate any slot, indicate it with pressed Alt key.

After selecting a text, the selected swatch will change its color. This function is available for the foreground slot and can be also applied on multiple selected texts.

In order to fill a selection you first need to create a bitmap. To fill the selection with the color on the active bitmap layer, select swatch when the Alt key is pressed.

Save/Import Swatches

The Swatchoos panel enables you to import the most common bitmap formats and .aco files in two ways: by creating a new group or adding them to an existing one.

.aco, .swatch, .jpg, .png, .bmp, .gif

Import bitmap

In order to import a bitmap into your panel go to Flyout menu -> Open... and choose a file in the compatible format. Swatchoos will generate a specified number of colors based on the current Settings. If a bitmap contains a smaller number of colors than the number specified in the settings, the panel will limit the number of swatches and display a message, informing you about the failure to create a full palette.

Import from layer(s)

You can also import colors from a given layer(s) in an active project and add them to your palette by selecting the Import from layer option. If the selected range contains a smaller number of colors than the number specified in the settings, the panel will limit the number of swatches and display an appropriate message.

Import from .aco

Swatchoos enables you to import colors from the native .aco format. Apart from importing the colors, the panel will also obtain their names.

If in imported .aco there are colors in CMYK or PANTONE space, they will be automatically converted into RGB colors.

Appearance

Swatchoos lets you modify the size and shape of the displayed swatches. When rounding is disabled, it is possible to hide the color frames.

All panel settings are available in the Flyout menu – they enable you to change the appearance and global behaviour of the application.

Options

This section contains three settings: automatic sorting of the imported swatches by Luminosity or Hue, and disabling/enabling the display of a message inform you that the imported elements will be sent to a group.

License

This section contains a link to the website allowing you to purchase a license, a field for entering the activation code (more information are available in section 1.2 Trial & License) as well as the display of the remaining number of days until the end of the evaluation period.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Alt + Drag color - Duplicate swatch
  • Cmd/Ctrl + Brighter/Darken Icon - Create a new brighter/darken swatch

  • Shift + Right click on swatch - Send color to background slot
  • Shift + click color - Add color to selection

Global ShortcutsIt is possible to set your own global keyboard shortcuts - after entering the Edit ➜ Keyboard shortcuts ➜ File, select the activity for which you want to set a keyboard shortcut and after clicking on it, click the "Activate" button. You must remember that keyboard shortcuts must contain function keys - Ctrl or F.
